#28 A New Low

Well, Gus hit a new low. He has been protesting Owen's presence and Ryan's return to full time work by systematically destroying anything and everything that is left on any surface in our living room. Often we'll do a "Gus Check" before leaving and feel confident that we'll return to an in-tact home, but he'll manage to find something that was previously unappetizing and munch on that all afternoon. For example, he's destroyed DVD packages, rolls of paper towels, potatoes, anything you can think of.

Well, we got home from work last week to find the house smelling faintly of diaper cream. Turns out Gus had gotten into Owen's diaper bag, which was placed on our highest counter, and eaten an entire tube of Burt's Bees Diaper Cream. This made him terribly ill, so awaiting our arrival at the top of the stairs was a pile of doggy throwup smelling of diaper cream. He had also pooped in the house twice because of his upset belly. Ryan and I now understand the full extent of Gus's meddling---he is alpha and omega, the creator and destructor, nothing is safe.

I think he is feeling dethroned by Owen and this is his form of protest! First-child syndrome and all.

Tell Gus you're going to send him to military school if he doesn't shape up.

Or perhaps he's just missing his girlfriend, Molly Bloom Gully Stoeckl...

This reminded me of the Valley - when nothing was safe from Ryan eating it... stories of him eating random pizzas .... oh dear! Do you think Gus is taking after his father?
